I Want a “Limited” Edition!!!

Its rare when anything comes out nowadays that when there is a “Limited Edition” that it really is limited. This has been a marketing ploy for the last few years when it comes to games and DVDs. DVDs are the worst offenders of this, with just about every single movie that is release its always coined as special or limited but its really just the regular intended DVD. Once you drop the cash to get that “special edition” and own it for a good while at times studios actually do end up releasing a REAL special edition that actually has special features in it and is really worth getting. Usually its also cheaper than you paid for your gimped version. That always pisses me off.

There are some times it is done right. Take for example the collectors edition for both the original release of World of Warcraft and the expansion The Burning Crusade. I was a little late to the Warcraft party I didn’t start playing till about a year ago. So for me trying to get The Burning Crusade Collectors Edition was exciting, why? Cause at release it was almost impossible to even get a pre-order. At my EB they only were getting one (which the guy who bought it was stoned out of his mind when he was there and barely noticed he got the CE). It made me just a little envious of this guy, cause I tend to enjoy getting the best and highest edition of anything usually (depending on if its worth it).

When the announcement for the Legendary Halo 3 set was announce I was stoked. One real selling point for me is when it comes with DVDs of making of. I eat that stuff up if anything comes with a actual in depth making of im sold easy. Then on top of that it was said that it was also going to be Limited to a few hundred thousand. Soon as i heard that news I ran out to my EB put my money down. Boom #1 and hopefully the only 1 just like with the Burning Crusade, As months past i was still the only person that had it so I had a feeling I was going to be the only one. Even after that announced the price was raised to $130 I didn’t care I was willing to pay to have the extra content and to be “one of the few”.

Few weeks later I went over to EB to pick something up and as I did, I asked just how many legendary pre-orders there were and the guy looks at me and says “eh this looks like around 40″. Man i was pissed, cause that was a clear given that it was not going to be limited and just about every EB was going to have this many or more, tons of them all over best buy and any where that sells video games. Then you have to realize yes its a smart business move. Tons of people will buy this and Bungie will rake in tons of cash, who wouldn’t do that its a smart move. Why not other companies are pulling in tons of cash.

I really hope at some point in time a movie or a game will actually have a SKU that is actually Limited and or Special. One day this will be something to enjoy without hopefully dropping over $200 on anything. Lets just hope!!!

EDIT : Something that just came to mind when I posted this. This DVD came out very pricey for the speical Two Disk set, Then a few months down the road I was at best buy as saw the NEW “Special Edition”. Let lone $40 come on, this had should have been released from the get go not an after thought. Fuckers

Not Every Game Has To Be Online

This is a time period of the gaming world where just about every game has an online component in some shape or form. Games that are solely single player get taken out of there true form just to add some type of multi-player or Co-op feature. Which when the game calls for it and the game is made to be that way, then yes cool go for it. Such as Gears of War, this game always has you teamed up with a partner throughout the entire game. So Co-op works perfect in this, it works.

I remembered growing up I was the kind of person who loved a game that just had an amazing deep story. Which you usually only get that with a game that is a single player. The only game recently that has done this is Oblivion.

Damn do I love this game. A game so deep and so real in every possible way. It brings back memories of times past when the games most important thing is just a single player experience. To have a story and a world that you are in alone, with a story that sucks you in. I remember one of the first games that really made me emotionally moved was Metal Gear on the PS1. I was latched on to that game so hard, from that point on I only really cared to get games that had a rich deep story. Yes I’ll play your online shooters and all but would I get a game just for an online experience? Well no. The reason I would buy say Gears of War and Halo comes back to the single player the game has.

As I said Oblivion was just so refreshing. Yes I could just buy and play RPG’s if i wanted deep story single player story, but that would incline the game having a battle system that I can enjoy. More games need to be offline experiences just for a player to enjoy. Look how massively successful Oblivion was. Now we have a game coming out very soon that is Offline and is just a single player only and that is Bioshock, and later this year maybe Mass Effect.

Which Bioshock is on its way for Great success. Hopefully more of the industry takes note to this and really steps forward and take the chance to take a risk like this. Cause to make a game with no online play at all is taboo now, But most of the best games are offline single player games. Yes I know I play World of Warcraft but ill have a post about that soon, thats a whole different subject than this.

This Will NOT!!!

Make me want to get a PS3. It just makes it look really bad in my eyes. So from all the good things I been thinking about here is a strike against it.

*shakes fist*

When Will It Be Time For A PS3?

This is something that i been thinking about lately. From being a fan of the PS2 I have respect for Sony and what they did. When the time was coming for the Launch of the PS3 they were doing just about every single thing you can possibly do wrong, In not only a console but the launch.

There has been almost nothing to really convince me to get a PS3, Which actually made me sad cause I loved the PS2 so much. With a $600 tag along with no rumble and barely anything coming out for a very long time. The thought for me to want a PS3 faded very fast. Plus it was really easy to also, With my 360 in my hands I had no worries when it came to my gaming needs. Plus with all the games that were Sony exclusive ended up being ported over to 360 I then really had no need for the system.

Ive had always said there are a few things that Sony can do that will make me want this system. That being 1)Full universal online play. 2) Rumble (yes its a big deal) 3) Games that are going to be on that system only that will make me want it. Within the recent weeks I have had the urge to get a PS3, Mainly due to Sony actually fulfilling those things I just listed.

The PSN is actually becoming one solid universal service and “HOME” is going to help that out alot more. The rumble issue has been solved and more than likely by the end of this year rumble will be back. As for games on the system that I want to play. Mainly Metal Gear Solid 4, Why? Cause MGS is one of my favorite video game franchises ever. Yes I know there is a big chance of it being to 360 but from what we have all seen in game play, I just might want it for the PS3. At the same time sure i can just get it on 360 and not get a PS3, but Metal Gear will feel different on any other controller than the Playstation. Only thing with that is the PS3 controller isn’t as good as the PS2. Hands down the 360 controller is the best controller ever! But as in writing that I tried to remember all the other games i want for the system but i really can’t come up with any at all really. Except like Uncharted which looks awesome. So even though I am drawing a blank there are things that make me want the system, It took all this time for it to sell me on it, Now lets just hope that when it would come down for me to get one that nothing changes that will make me change my mind.

But I can also see myself doing this if I owned it. Kinda like with my Wii, just collecting dust.

But hey if anything it will be a good Blu-Ray player hahaha

New To The Blog World

Well, My name is Gabe. Im not 100% sure what my blog will be about or what it will turn out to be. I have some ideas in my head, So for now it will more than likely be random thoughts that are brewing up in my mind. Its i can tell going to have alot of involvement in my thought on the video game industry, that and the trends that are occurring with it and the views of the gaming world. Lets just see how this all goes. Well i know it won’t be all games but all forms of media, but as i said we will see how it shapes up to be.

Update : And don’t think I’m going to be a  fanboy cause of the pic. Its Sephiroth come on, the guy is a badass
