This is a time period of the gaming world where just about every game has an online component in some shape or form. Games that are solely single player get taken out of there true form just to add some type of multi-player or Co-op feature. Which when the game calls for it and the game is made to be that way, then yes cool go for it. Such as Gears of War, this game always has you teamed up with a partner throughout the entire game. So Co-op works perfect in this, it works.
I remembered growing up I was the kind of person who loved a game that just had an amazing deep story. Which you usually only get that with a game that is a single player. The only game recently that has done this is Oblivion.
Damn do I love this game. A game so deep and so real in every possible way. It brings back memories of times past when the games most important thing is just a single player experience. To have a story and a world that you are in alone, with a story that sucks you in. I remember one of the first games that really made me emotionally moved was Metal Gear on the PS1. I was latched on to that game so hard, from that point on I only really cared to get games that had a rich deep story. Yes I’ll play your online shooters and all but would I get a game just for an online experience? Well no. The reason I would buy say Gears of War and Halo comes back to the single player the game has.
As I said Oblivion was just so refreshing. Yes I could just buy and play RPG’s if i wanted deep story single player story, but that would incline the game having a battle system that I can enjoy. More games need to be offline experiences just for a player to enjoy. Look how massively successful Oblivion was. Now we have a game coming out very soon that is Offline and is just a single player only and that is Bioshock, and later this year maybe Mass Effect.
Which Bioshock is on its way for Great success. Hopefully more of the industry takes note to this and really steps forward and take the chance to take a risk like this. Cause to make a game with no online play at all is taboo now, But most of the best games are offline single player games. Yes I know I play World of Warcraft but ill have a post about that soon, thats a whole different subject than this.
